![]() ![]() It is not surprising that the test audience consistently gave higher marks to the originals, under these conditions. They also actually told the test listeners when they would hear degraded sounds. the authors used low-pass filters to reduce the bandwidth to 4.4kHz and 7.7kHz, whereas mp3-encoders usually use 18kHz or higher. The authors of the paper basically compare CD-sound and intentionally degraded sound of very poor quality, well below modern lossy audio codecs that still aim for transparency. I do not think that this paper really disproves the previous poster. I seethe with rage at those people who keep telling me there are actually "five lights". I cry for those who have already lost their lives to this foolishness, and the untold number of dead waiting in our near-term future. My point: this is bad, getting worse, we can't/won't stop it, and it's not going end well. We live in a "post-truth" world, where "reality" is whatever you declare it to be, and that genie is never going back into the bottle. I have no answers to fix it, and blame does not rest entirely in any socio-political camp (tho I have my own personal opinions on that). ![]() Our entertainment networks are now doing the same, soon to be followed by our public education system. ![]() ![]() Our news sources have already self-sorted into camps of opposition. Some of us literally can't even talk to our family members. Not policies, but whether or not the sky is actually blue or whether water is wet. You know: we have a problem, but we disagree what to do about it. As an "older" American, I miss the days when people actually debated POLICY. ![]()
